Limitation of Liability

Parent Coaching and Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) are not counseling services. The Adoption Connection, LLC does not provide clinical counseling or psychotherapy. Parent Coaching and SSP are not meant to be a substitute for clinical counseling, treatment for suicidal ideation, or severe psychiatric problems. Services are not reimbursable through health insurance policies. You (the client) agree that using any of these coaching services are entirely at your own risk. Coaching services are provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied, including without limitation any warranty for information services, coaching, uninterrupted access, or products and services provided through or in connection with the service. This service is requested at the client's own choice and with inherent singular responsibility. The client agrees that the use of all, or part, of the service is entirely at the client's own risk. Any actions or lack of actions, taken by the client of such advice is done so solely by choice and responsibility of the client and is neither the responsibility nor liability of The Adoption Connection, LLC. No assumption of responsibility is made, or given, and the client requesting such advice agrees not to hold The Adoption Connection, LLC responsible or liable in any form or fashion, for such actions taken of their own accord. The method and process by which this advice and direction are given in no way would constitute an agreement or liability on the part of the provider and is acknowledged to be different in many ways than clinical counseling or psychotherapy. Any information provided about essential oils has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

SSP: Introduction and Benefits

This intervention is evidence based – which means that it has been found through research to have a positive impact on participants.

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a result of Dr. Stephen Porges’ 40 years of research on the relationship between the autonomic nervous system, auditory sensitivities and social emotional processes. SSP is a sound-based intervention that has been found to calm physiological and emotional states. It was designed to reduce stress and auditory sensitivity and enhance social engagement and resilience by stimulating nervous system regulation by exercising and systematically challenging the auditory system with specifically processed or filtered music.

SSP: Risks

With SSP, there is some possibility that you will experience some gastrointestinal symptoms. This is not uncommon, but it does not happen with everyone. Some people report bowel changes or feel gassy. Please report this to your provider if it happens as there are things that can be done to help with these symptoms.

There also may be an uptick in strong emotions or negative behaviors for a short time. This is not uncommon with any new type of therapy or intervention. In part, this is since the interventions are “changing” the nervous system into a more settled state, but because this “feels” different, it can be disorienting. As time passes, the participant should settle into a new, calmer state. If the participant is going through a period of stress (anniversaries, beginning school, etc), participating in this project should be reconsidered until a less stressful time. In addition, with SSP, you can help by keeping extra activities and stress to a minimum for the week of and week or so after the intervention.

I understand that a temporary increase in arousal or symptoms may occur. I agree to immediately notify my provider if I or my child experience any of the following:

Increased auditory or other sensory sensitivities
Ear discomfort, pressure, or "ringing" in the ears
Emotional dysregulation (changes in arousal)
Gastrointestinal discomfort
Fatigue
Headache

Results discussed depends on each individual participant. The Adoption Connection, LLC cannot guarantee success or healing level, nor is the coach responsible for any of your actions.

SSP: Informed Consent

It has the potential to create meaningful, positive shifts in the autonomic nervous system, including in sensory, autonomic, physiological, emotional, and cognitive domains.

However, no warranty or guarantee of specific results has been made to me. Additionally the risks and potential complications of SSP have been fully explained to me along with available alternative treatments and their benefits and risks. I agree to notify my provider of changed I experience during the SSP, so my provider can best support me.

I have had the opportunity to have my questions answered, understand the process for listening, and have access to the needed equipment. I understand that I may pause or discontinue listening at any time.

I understand that statements on Unyte-iLs' or The Adoption Connection, LLC's website have not been evaluated by the FDA, and the products and services are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Unyte iLs products are not medical devices or instruments.

I understand I have the right to refuse treatment with the SSP. Nevertheless, I consent to using the SSP and accept all associated risks.

Coaches each have their own accessibility schedules. Please check with your coach for their schedule.

Your Rights

Participation in this intervention is voluntary. You have the right not to participate at all or to stop at any time.

Your confidentiality rights are the same as in a counseling relationship. You have a right to complete confidentiality except in the case of reported child or elder abuse, planned harm to self or others or in the rare case that records are subpoenaed.

Payment processing companies and Merchants may have privacy and data collection practices that are different from ours. The Adoption Connection, LLC has no responsibility or liability for these independent policies of the payment processing companies and Merchants. In addition, when you make certain purchases through our Programs, Products or Services, you may be subject to the additional terms and conditions of a payment processing company, Merchant or us that specifically apply to your purchase.
