What is the Safe and Sound Protocol?
Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a multi-day auditory intervention designed to reduce stress and auditory sensitivity while enhancing social engagement and resilience. Based on Dr. Porges’ Polyvagal Theory, by calming the physiological and emotional state, the door is opened for improved communication and more success with other therapy modalities.
Why is aromatherapy important for this intensive?
Your sense of smell is the only one of your basic five senses that bypasses the cognitive or thinking brain and directly impacts the limbic system, the part of our brain where emotions and memories are stored. By anchoring an essential oil to your Safe and Sound experience, you can use that essential oil to trigger a desired regulation state.
